Takanini, Papakura & Karaka Lakes
Catch a leisurely train from your choice of train station to travel south to Te Mahia Station. From there we will cycle the Wattle Downs walkway around the Pahurehure Inlet to meet up with the new Takanini-Karaka cycleway. We will pass through Karaka Lakes with a lunch stop at Melba Café. After lunch, we cross the motorway on our own cycle bridge and follow the rest of the inlet through Youngs Beach, Papakura Oaks, and towards Takanini. There are some main roads with cycle lanes but these are only short distances to reach quiet back roads where we head back to Takanini train station for the return journey. Further info: For those who wish to drive to the start instead of catching the train, meet at the carpark outside James Cook High School, Dr Pickering Ave, Manurewa at 11:30 a.m. Morning train timetable: Britomart 10:12 / Newmarket 10:20 / Ellerslie 10:27 / Penrose 10:30 If on the day, the trains are not running meet at the carpark outside James Cook High School, Dr Pickering Ave, Manurewa at 10:30 a.m. (including those driving to the starting point)
